What is Family Council?
Hello everyone! I hope ya'll have had an awesome week! For this weeks topic, I want to discuss something that's a little bit different. Family council. First of all, what do you guys think family council is? Has your family ever used it growing up? Or is it something your doing with your families now? Leave your comments in the comment section below.
First of all, let's answer the question of what family council is. A family council is when a family schedules a specific time for the whole family to gather together and discuss the important events happening in the upcoming week. It is also a time for the family to get together and discuss certain struggles that have been occurring in the family. Or if a family member is struggling or going for a difficult time, a family council is a place where all can gather and support that person. The family can even help by giving advice and even think of solutions together to get through a hard time.
I can remember when I was growing up, my family had a family council every Sunday, and I absolutely love it! My dad would always begin by asking someone to say an opening prayer to invite the Holy Spirit into the council. Having the spirit there always made it easier to make difficult decisions, and it made our family feel happier and closer together. We would discuss the events that were coming, and would finalize our busy schedules, and would know where everyone was at throughout the week. After the council we would kneel together as a family and say a closing prayer, thanking our Heavenly Father for leading the discussion with the Holy Spirit. After the prayer, we would get ready for bed.
Having family councils were some of my favorite memories with my family growing up. It's a practice I want to continue with my own family someday. When we felt the spirit when we prayed about what difficulties needed to be solved and the plans we decided to go through we knew that it was what our Heavenly Father needed us to do, and that gave me some much comfort knowing our family was doing the things the Lord needed us to do. This made our family even closer.
Even if you're not religious, just meeting as a family weekly will bring your family closer together and will help your family through difficult times, and it will also keep everyone on the same page, and know what everyone is doing throughout the week.
